Fine subject matter drastically mishandled by a director obsessively trying to fit all the individuals in the film into his very personal concept of "collectors are all one dimensional losers whose personal lives suffer as a consequence".
Unfortunately the only character amongst these experts in their chosen field (most of whom have quite full and interesting lives and yes some of whom are no longer w/ us ie.- forever enshrined in this conceit) is the director himself-
