@LunaJohannaLeigh because most people know that youre supposed to to tip, and i usually make a lot of money off my tips. everyone has bills so everyone needs the money, including servers. if youre not gonna tip your server when you go out, then just dont go at all.

@LunaJohannaLeigh I'm guessing you dont know that servers dont get paid the normal minimum wage. in georgia the minimum wage is 7.25 an hour, i am a server and i get 2.13 an hour plus tips, and i have to tip out my bartenders at the end of the night. you tip your server because we bust our ass to impress you so we can get a good tip. our paychecks every two weeks are less than 100 dollars. we make a living off of our tips.

I'm with rodriguezelchato. Every waiter in the restaurant I work at (Im a hostess -3) is paid minimum wage, and some literally rely on tips just to make rent/car payments/gas/etc. You aren't paid enough to survive paycheck to paycheck, another job is critical just to support yourself. I'm a student saving up funds for school and books alone rape a big part of my savings (and I do my best to bargain hunt).

@LunaJohannaLeigh It's a culture matter i guess.Im not sure how much the waiters make hourly in sweden but here in the us (most states) pay the minimum wage or even less than the minimum and almost never offer the opportunity of a full time job.That's why the tips are so important in this type of job. Most servers make more in tips than what they do hourly and believe me you cant live out of your 20-25 hours a week paycheck.I will say 70% of waiters have a second job to survive,others r students
